A new religious complex is opening its doors in Neuquén with a clear commitment to community and proximity. The Iglesia Bautista Jesús es Rey has completed a project that began with the acquisition of the property in 2009 and will celebrate its formal opening on Saturday, October 31, with activities continuing through Sunday, November 1. The new building is located at J. J. Lastra 3100, across from the Estación Terminal de Ómnibus, and its auditorium was designed to hold up to 4,000 seated people, although 2,500 places will be enabled in the first stage.

A project sustained by the congregation

The work took 15 years from the purchase of the land to the inauguration. The cornerstone was laid in 2012, and the construction reached approximately 6,600 square meters, including 2,500 square meters for the auditorium. The project was financed entirely through offerings from the congregation, without bank loans. For the people who regularly gather in the church, this is not only a new building, but also the result of a long and shared effort.

The main hall was conceived in a semicircular layout to reduce the distance between attendees and the stage. It will have no images, portraits or golden ornamentation. Its curved roof is supported by a double metal beam measuring 55 meters long and five meters high. The space is intended to host the Sunday meetings, which usually bring together around 2,000 people and will move from the historic temple at Roca 445 to the new auditorium.

“The opening of this new auditorium represents the effort and faith of a whole community. It is a significant step for a church that has been present in the region for more than a century and is preparing to celebrate 90 years as an organized congregation next year.”Delia Chocobar, Sociedad y comunidades

The history of Jesús es Rey is also linked to other forms of community work. AMEN, the mutual that grew out of the congregation, operates a school and also managed ambulance services for years. Among the authorities invited to the inauguration are Neuquén Governor Rolando Figueroa and Mayor Mariano Gaido, while the exact schedule for the October 31 events is still awaiting confirmation.

  • The opening will take place on October 31 and November 1.
  • The auditorium can accommodate up to 4,000 seated people and will initially operate with 2,500 enabled places.
  • The construction covers approximately 6,600 square meters and was funded entirely with congregational offerings.
  • The Sunday meetings will move from Roca 445 to the new auditorium, located at J. J. Lastra 3100.

At the end of October, the doors of the new auditorium will open in Neuquén, facing the bus terminal and continuing a story that began 15 years ago. For a congregation that gathers about 2,000 people every Sunday, the new setting promises to bring the community closer together while preserving the simplicity and collective effort that marked its construction.
